Create a splash of late-season colour with Vernonia crinita, also known as Arkansas Ironweed. This bee-friendly perennial has tall, upright stems up to 2 metres tall and loose clusters of small, red-purple flowers much appreciated by insects. It’s a lovely addition to a wildlife garden or prairie-style planting scheme. You can plant Vernonia crinita in full sun or partial shade, but it needs plenty of sunshine to perform its best.
This Vernonia is ideal as a cut flower and also dries well for beautiful winter arrangements. The leaves and roots of this North American native are traditionally used in herbal medicine. 100% pesticide-free, our Vernonia plants are excellent for increasing the biodiversity of your plot.
