Based on the former use of their dried leaves in making snuff, a number of these species have the common name “sneezeweed.” Asteraceae is a plant family known for its sunflowers. The daisy, or aster family’s common sneezeweed, is a perennial plant that can be found throughout the United States in places where the soil is moist to wet.

Its bright yellow blossoms attract bees and butterflies from late summer to October. Composter should be added first to well-drained, moist soil in direct sunlight.

To keep the soil from drying out, stake taller varieties in underexposed conditions and water them regularly. Don’t let spent blooms accumulate.

Deadhead them regularly to keep the flowers blooming. Helenium clumps can be divided every few years in spring or autumn, allowing you to enjoy them for a long time.

Pollinators that visit these flowers include bees, wasps, syrphid flies, butterflies, and beetles, and a variety of cultivars are now available with vibrant colours that range from orange and crimson to bright canary yellow and everything in between.
