Cenelophium

Add this airy, elegant plant to your beds and borders, and you’ll be rewarded with numerous bees, butterflies and other pollinators! Our eco-friendly grown Cenolophium or Baltic Parsley is similar to the wild Cow Parsley. It flowers from June to the first frosts with beautiful lacy clusters of tiny white and green flowers, borne on tall branching stems over finely cut, semi-evergreen leaves.

These eco-friendly grown plants grow to around one metre and make a striking vertical accent at the middle or back of a border. The flowers are excellent for cutting – they last well in water and look gorgeous as part of a summer bouquet. You can also dry them for pretty winter arrangements. Combine with dahlias, cosmos, Japanese anemones, achilleas and grasses for a lovely, low-maintenance display.

Cultivation

Cenolophium is trouble-free to grow: it’s not too fussy about its situation, tolerating even heavy clay soils. In addition, it’s naturally resistant to pests and diseases.

For the best results, plant in a sunny spot with rich, well-drained, fertile soil. You can grow cenolophium in partial shade, but it flowers best when it gets plenty of sunshine. Ceneloophium will benefit from mulching in autumn. This vigorous perennial grows up to 1.2 metres tall, so it’s ideal for the middle or back of a border. It has a very long flowering period, blooming from midsummer to mid-autumn. Baltic Parsley is not evergreen – the foliage dies back in autumn and grows again in spring.

Propagation

In good growing conditions, Cenelophium self-seeds, so if you don’t want more plants, remove the seed heads before they ripen. They will eventually form clumps up to 60cm across – you can propagate more plants by dividing them in early spring.

You can also buy seeds or collect your own and sow them directly in the ground where you want them to grow. It’s best to do this in early autumn before the ground gets cold. Rake in lightly to barely cover the seeds. Cold winter weather followed by warmer temperatures as spring arrives will encourage them to germinate.

Our Cenolophium plants are 100% pesticide-free, making them the perfect option for organic gardening.
