Achillea filipendulina ‘Cloth of Gold is among the largest, featuring flat, plate-like heads of deep yellow flowers held aloft on tall stems, accompanied by ferny foliage below. Known as Achillea ‘Cloth of Gold,’ it boasts longevity and drought tolerance but requires ample space for spreading. Ideal for a sunny location at the rear of a herbaceous border or amidst grasses, it benefits from staking, especially during wet weather when it tends to flop over. Additionally, it serves to attract many pollinators and is an excellent cut flower.
Achilleas thrive in well-drained soil, disliking excessive moisture. Stake the plant using bamboo canes or brushwood before the flowers emerge. In late winter, cut it down to the ground. For larger clumps, lift and divide in late autumn or early spring.
