Muhlenbergia capillaris is a very attractive grass with striking flower plumes, thriving best in a dry and sunny location. It’s a densely tufted, perennial evergreen grass that forms a mound of linear, dark green leaves up to 30cm long. From midsummer to late autumn, it produces airy, open clusters of pink spikelets held on slender stems above the foliage, making them suitable for cutting.
Once established, it becomes drought-tolerant and is well-suited for coastal sites or containers. The recommended position is in a dry, moisture-retentive area. It typically flowers from September to November and reaches a height of 50 cm – 100 cm. The grass is not evergreen and prefers well-draining soil, exhibiting an upright to spreading growth habit.
