With dramatic spikes of rich indigo blue flowers borne on silvery-green foliage throughout May and June, Baptisia Australis is one of the most striking cottage garden plants. Remove the flowers as they fade to prolong the flowering period, but leave some to develop seed heads for lovely winter decorations.

These bee-friendly flowers can take a while to become established, but they’re worth the wait! Once settled in, they’re resistant to drought, so they are a fantastic option for a dry, sunny location.
