What is a bare root perennial?
Easy 6-Step Guide to Grow Bare Root Perennials
1. Before planting, soak the bare roots in water for about 1 hour.
2. If you plan to plant your bare roots early in the year, we recommend planting them in temporary pots that are big enough to fit your bare roots. Then, use our potting and container compost and place them outside, preferably in a sheltered spot.
3. If the bare roots have a visible crown, you should place it slightly below the surface, with all the top growth exposed.
4. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted shallowly (1-2cm).
5. Plant the bare root perennials out in pots, containers or directly in you border in late spring or early summer. Depending on the species, look for the best position in full sun, half sun or shade.
6. Once you have placed the bare roots in a flower border or a pot, make sure you water them often to keep the roots hydrated.
Bare root perennials will grow into beautiful, vigorous plants that will brighten up your patio, garden or balcony for many years to come.

Greater selection: Bare root perennials are often available in a wider range of varieties than potted or container-grown plants, giving you more options to choose from.
Eco-friendly: Bare root perennials require less packaging material and take up less space during shipping, making them a more eco-friendly option. Besides: our bare root perennials are grown eco-friendly which means without the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, so better for biodiversity and pollinators like bees and butterflies.
