Approx. 35 organic vegetable seeds per gardener’s packet
Organic Broad Bean, Hangdown Green is a 100% pesticide-free variety with a good yield and delicious flavour. In spring, sweetly scented white flowers attract bees and other pollinators before giving way to bright-green pods. Harvest this maincrop broad bean from June onwards.
Companion planting:
Plant next to summer savory to deter blackfly.
Growing instructions:
Sow direct March-May or start earlier under cover, then transplant. Plant double rows 30 centimetres apart and provide support. If mice are a problem, start them in pots before planting.
Cooking:
When young, steam the pods whole. Later, remove the beans from the pods and boil or steam until tender. Enjoy as a side dish, in risottos or blended to make dips.
