The Giant Yellow Sunflower is a classic variety known for its tall stature and a single, large flower head filled with edible black seeds. While the “giant” in its name highlights the size of the flower, the plants themselves can also reach impressive heights of up to 2 meters. These sunflowers are excellent for attracting pollinators like bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects to your garden. Additionally, their stunning blooms make beautiful, long-lasting cut flowers.
To grow Giant Yellow Sunflowers, sow seeds outdoors between April and May, or start them earlier in pots inside a greenhouse. Keep the soil consistently moist to encourage healthy germination and growth. Once the first true leaves have fully developed, transplant the seedlings outdoors, spacing them about 30 cm apart to allow ample room for growth.
These sunflowers bloom from July to September, adding vibrant color and charm to your garden throughout the summer months.
