The beautiful scarlet flowers of Organic Runner Bean, Scarlet Emperor, will tempt bees and butterflies to your garden. This 100% pesticide-free heritage variety grows up to 3 metres tall, producing masses of long, bright-green pods with a sweet, delicate flavour. Top and tail pods and remove side “strings” before cooking. The mottled purple-black beans are also delicious when left to mature and dry.

Companion planting:
Plant beans next to nasturtiums to draw blackfly away from them.

Growing instructions:
Support plants with canes, netting or strings—plant seeds in April under cover or in situ in May. Runner beans like rich, moist soil, so dig a 30-centimetre trench at the planting site and add plenty of organic matter.
