Lemon balm is a perennial shrub with an invigorating citrusy aroma that uplifts your spirits in your cup of tea or while strolling through the garden. It is also a remedy for insect stings and helps improve gout.
Organic lemon balm can be grown on open ground from early May. However, you can sow it covered from March. Seeds sprout in about a week and the plant grows fast. Thin or transplant the seedlings a foot or two apart for better foliage growth.
The 100% pesticide-free herb leaves can be harvested as soon as they appear. Fresh leaves have the most potent effects. You can steep the leaves in your tea and add them to pastries. Lemon balm leaves can also be dried for preservation.
