Buckwheat is not related to wheat but is a member of the rhubarb family. Organic buckwheat grows very quickly and produces a large quantity of organic matter to dig in, so it’s a valuable green manure.
Growing tips: After harvesting a previous crop, (May-August), fork over the soil and remove weeds. Scatter buckwheat seed evenly over the patch and rake in lightly. Water well in dry weather. Dig in or mulch about 10 – 12 weeks after planting but before flowering.
