Lonicera kamtschatica ‘Martin’, commonly known as the honeyberry or haskap, is a hardy and productive fruiting shrub that produces sweet and tangy blue berries in early summer. This variety is well-regarded for its vigorous growth, cold tolerance, and high yields, making it an excellent choice for gardeners in cooler climates. The elongated, deep blue berries have a flavour reminiscent of blueberries with a hint of honey and can be enjoyed fresh, in smoothies, jams, or baking.

Thriving in well-drained, fertile soil, Lonicera ‘Martin’ prefers a sunny or partially shaded position for optimal fruit production. Regular watering is important, particularly during dry spells, to ensure healthy growth and a good harvest. Adding mulch helps retain moisture and suppress weeds. While relatively low-maintenance, light pruning in late winter or early spring will help maintain its shape and encourage strong new growth.

For best results, it is recommended to plant Lonicera ‘Martin’ alongside another honeyberry variety for cross-pollination, which significantly improves fruit set. Its compact growth habit makes it suitable for small gardens and even container growing. Exceptionally cold-hardy and resistant to pests and diseases, this variety is an easy-to-grow and rewarding addition to any fruit garden, offering delicious and nutrient-rich berries early in the season.
