Monarda
Monarda, also called Bee Balm, is a flowering perennial in the mint family. It has been cultivated since colonial times for its medicinal, fragrant, edible leaves. It was in the United States that Monarda gained a reputation as a potent herbal remedy, and today it can be found in teas, in soups and stews, in salads, and sauces.
The flowers are colourful and aromatic, and they make a spectacular addition to a bouquet. The scent of the Monarda flowers is particularly strong when they are crushed or bruised.
