Ribes rubrum ‘Weisse Versailles’, commonly known as the White Currant ‘Weisse Versailles’, is a highly productive and vigorous fruiting shrub that produces large clusters of translucent, pale-yellow berries with a sweet and slightly tart flavour. This traditional variety is well-regarded for its excellent yield and disease resistance, making it a reliable choice for home gardeners and allotment growers alike. The berries ripen in mid to late summer and are perfect for eating fresh, adding to desserts, or making jams, jellies, and cordials.

Thriving in well-drained, fertile soil, White Currants prefer a sunny position but can tolerate partial shade. Regular mulching with organic matter helps retain moisture and suppress weeds, while consistent watering during dry periods ensures healthy growth and a bountiful harvest. Pruning should be carried out in late winter or early spring, removing older wood to encourage new fruit-bearing shoots and maintaining an open, well-ventilated structure.

With its compact growth habit, ‘Weisse Versailles’ is suitable for gardens of all sizes and can even be grown in large containers. Its attractive, bushy form and ornamental fruits make it a beautiful addition to any fruit garden. The berries, rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, offer a delicious and nutritious treat straight from the bush or incorporated into culinary creations.
