Organic Pepper Habanero Red is a striking, lantern-shaped chilli variety with wrinkled fruits about 6 cm long. Known for their intense heat, these peppers grow on tall, vigorous plants that require support as they mature.

Chilli peppers come in a dazzling variety of shapes, sizes, colours, and levels of spiciness. Their heat intensity is gauged using the Scoville scale.

Mild to Medium Hotness
Anaheim peppers are among the mildest, scoring between 500 and 2,500 on the scale. Jalapeños are spicier, ranging from 2,500 to 8,000, while Hungarian Hot Wax peppers fall between 5,000 and 10,000.

Hot to Extra-Hot Varieties
Cayenne peppers bring more heat, with a range of 30,000 to 50,000, and Purira varieties are hotter still, falling between 30,000 and 100,000. Habanero peppers take spiciness to another level, starting at 100,000 and reaching up to 350,000 on the Scoville scale.

Handling Tips
Exercise caution when handling chillies, as their heat can transfer to your hands, utensils, and surfaces. Once you taste your homegrown chillies, you’ll develop a sense of how much to use in recipes and whether to include the seeds, which intensify the heat of dishes.

Growing Instructions:

  1. Starting Seeds: Sow seeds from January to March in trays or modules at a temperature of 18–21°C.
  2. Transplanting: Once true leaves emerge, transfer seedlings into 8 cm pots filled with high-quality organic compost.
  3. Final Placement: Move the plants into grow bags, greenhouse beds, or polytunnel borders when they reach about 10 cm in height. If grown in pots, repot into progressively larger containers until reaching the final size.
  4. Feeding and Harvesting: Apply liquid feed after fruits begin to form. Harvest the peppers green or allow them to ripen to red or, in some cases, orange.

By following these steps, you can cultivate a vibrant and spicy crop of Habanero Red chillies.
